The most beautiful flower amongst the weeds

I love Queen Anne’s Lace. This time of year as I drive along seeing patches upon patches of this amazing “weed”, I force my eyes back on the road and resist the urge to pull over and drag my kids or someone else’s kids out of the car to photograph them right in the middle of it! This is called obsessed photographer mom… and I try really hard not to be that very often. Believe it or not, this abundant weed was at one time used to cultivate the common day carrot. Amazing fact, huh? So right across the street from my house, I spied a wonderful patch of Queen Anne’s Lace and convinced Hannah to brave the bugs and sit long enough for me to take a few pictures! When she saw the results, she told me, “Wow Mom, that doesn’t even look like me!” Of course it does– my beautiful flower amongst the weeds!

Fields of Flowers

In seeking out a location for a commercial client, I happened upon this beautiful “cut your own flower” farm called Fields of Flowers. Anybody looking for something to do with your children this summer should definitely check this place out. Lovely flowers, beautiful scenery, and affordable prices! Leave me some!

How can I not love you more everyday? You are the one who will drop everything to give me 5 minutes of your time for anything from a cuddle to indulging my crazy photo ideas. I’ll learn to live with you growing up (even though I don’t like it), if you promise to save 5 minutes for me every now and then!

Sometimes the best photo opportunities come when you least expect it! This one happened by chance as we all went out for a walk around the block. Many of you know that my husband had back surgery last week to help alleviate pressure on a nerve as a result of a herniated disc… wow that was a mouthful. He takes frequent walks and sometimes we keep him company! To give you an idea of how fast his pace is– Jacob thought he could keep up with him on his self-propelled fire engine. I love that he put his Cars helmet on so he could match his older sisters, who were riding their bikes! Anyway, a few photos of my little guy!

Sometimes no smile is all you need!

I always say that a child is predictably unpredictable… funny, but true! If I had a dime for every parent of a one year old that says, “I don’t know what’s wrong with today. He/she is normally so happy and animated.”– well I’d have a piggy bank full of dimes! It doesn’t bother me at all if the child doesn’t smile as long as they are content. The eyes are the window to the soul and I really love images that show truth and honesty. Sometimes that can be found in a smile, in laughter, but many times it is found in the most serious expressions. I know I will have more of this little angel… with smiles… but I love this one and wanted to share it! Have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend!

Little Sister of Mine

Does anybody remember that McDonald’s commercial from the 80s about a little sister? Every time I take pictures of a family with an older boy or boys and a little sister… I think of that commercial. Anyway– here we are at the end of the mini session road. I’m so happy to end on this one– I can honestly say that I think these kids had fun during our session– I know I did!

Snips and Snails

9:40 am…this was the very first mini session of the day. We peeked out the window and saw these two cute little boys coming with their mom and just knew that they were headed our direction… then we frantically turned around to a mess of equipment that had yet to be setup. We had arrived at Belmont at 9:00 and even though the clubhouse didn’t open until later, we were assured that someone would be there to let us in…. WRONG. We had just gotten in about 10 minutes before these little guys arrived. So what did we do? Divide and conquer. Jen headed into the hallway and started the session while Havalynn and I finished getting the backdrop and lights setup. Everything worked out and thank goodness this was one of very few bumps throughout the day!
