2010 Blizzard Baby!

Nothing short of sheer perfection! Only one, but more to come This adorably sweet little one was born during our crazy weather pattern here in Northern Virginia that brought us 3 feet of snow! It is only appropriate that we “clothed” him (who I am I kidding– he only has a hat on–LOL) in snowy white.

This gorgeous little lady has the longest, most beautiful eyelashes. Funny thing: these two pictures were taken after our session was over, but I love all the color. 9 months is such a great age to capture little ones– they have so much personality, but aren’t yet running away! You’ll be seeing more from this session as soon as I catch up a bit!

It is amazing how quickly tiny, newborn fingers and wiggly little toes grow. My son celebrates his 3rd birthday on Friday so I am particularly sensitive this week to time passing me by. It seems like only yesterday he was a newborn with bitty fingers and toes. A simple baby powder scent brings a rush of emotion as those memories flash before my eyes. I love looking back at his early photos and am so blessed to have so many. The power of smell and sight is an amazing gift! Enjoy every second of their smallness and capture it any way that you can because before you know it, it’s a distant memory.

Our 2 feet of snow may have delayed my trip to visit this gorgeous family– but didn’t keep me away! I hope you enjoy these peeks as much as I enjoyed capturing them!

Avon Walk For Breast Cancer – Lara’s League Fundraiser at Belmont 2/28 – HIP Studio What to Wear

It is almost time! The mini session fundraising event to support Lara’s League in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer is only a few days away. Belmont Country Club was so kind to allow us the use of two rooms for the entire day! It just warmed my heart to see the outpouring of love and support as members and friends of the community signed up for the sessions. We had so much interest, that my colleague Jennifer Anderson (Jennifer Anderson Photography) has jumped on board to allow us to add some additional sessions. We certainly have a full day and a ton of work ahead of us… but we are all so EXCITED to see everyone on Sunday!

I promised Havalynn (Lara’s League team member and this event’s coordinator) that I would post some samples of the backdrop so that participants can visualize the colors that we will be working with. Hopefully this will help in making your wardrobe selections. I really tried to keep the colors very neutral so that any color would work for you. I will have some chairs, suitcases, baby carriages, etc. on hand for arranging groups and focusing attention… but these images of Havalynn’s beautiful children will show you the basic set:

As you can see, this set will accommodate a variety of styling options from colorful and funky European fashion to a more classic Strasburg look. In terms of my suggestions for wardrobe, here’s a few observations that may be helpful:

Follow your own personal style– dress the way you want to remember your children/family. The more at ease the children are in the clothing, the more genuine they will appear in the photo.
Think of where you want to display the photo as you make your clothing selections. For example, photos where the subject is wearing more formal attire work well displayed in a more formal area of your home.
Avoid wearing clothing with logos and distracting designs.
In planning clothing for more than one subject, do not dress both subjects in the same solid color. Rather, opt for complimentary colors/patterns.

This little bundle was so sweet and adorable– but she sure let me know when I did something she didn’t like. I work with newborns quite a lot and this little gal had a distinct little shriek. Every time she did it, I couldn’t help but giggle. Partially because it sounded so cute and partially because I could only imagine how that little shriek would multiply in magnitude through the years. I really enjoyed hanging out with this family yesterday– so calm and laid back– just a joy to be around! I hope you enjoy the sneak peek!

Rockin’ in 2010!

This little man was determined to arrive in 2009! Born on December 31, 2009 at 10:00 pm, Mr. T did not want to miss a party! A very tired Mom and Dad warned me that their baby was not a sleeper and did not like to be naked. I was prepared to photograph a completely clothed and bright eyed little guy…. but this is what we got.

To be fair, we did have the room temperature cranked up to about 100 degrees and he had been awake all morning! He was such a trooper and so very handome! I hope I tired him out during my time visiting so that Mom could get a few hours of zzz’s! Thank you so much for sharing your little guy with me– he is truly precious!

So excited to share this session. Here we have the most adorable little girl with these gorgeous blue eyes. She was visiting with her adoring grandmother for the week and popped in for a session to surprise mom for Christmas. I’m a little biased, but I can’t think of a better gift. They are little for such a short period of time. The ability to bottle that up and save it forever is priceless in my book!
